What is Muses of Miami?

It's an online magazine that features creatives in South Florida who are pushing the culture forward in a unique way.

What inspired you to start it?

The idea came to me a few years ago because at the time I was helping someone set up a lifestyle blog and we were brainstorming ideas. I suggested that she focus on Miami because at the time there weren't any cool blogs showcasing what was going on here but she wouldn't take any of my ideas. I began venting to my friend about how frustrated I was becoming and asked her what I should do and she suggested that I just do my own thing. At first, I was like "Me? Do my own thing? That's crazy" but the more I thought about it the more hyped I got about the idea and the thought of learning how to put everything together so I decided to try.

How'd you come up with the name?

I asked a friend how she got the name for her jewelry line and she said she just sat down and began writing down a ton of words, so I was like "okay cool, I'll write a ton of words"! I sat down and really thought about why I was doing all of this and it was because all of these people inspired me. At first, my concept was centered around taking Polaroids of people's outfits around the city, so I looked up the definition of muse and I really liked the actual meaning of it so I stuck with it.

What do you look for in your "muses"?

It's usually based on inspiration. If they're doing something that I find really cool, then I'll move forward with interviewing them. When I invite them to be interviewed I set up a conceptual photo shoot, a video documentary, and roll out some kind of event to help push them out after it has been published. What are you best known for? For throwing parties and being "the plug".

Do you have any projects coming up that we should look forward to?

I'll be releasing a collaborative project with Twelve'len and Erika Cintron, the founder of Magiazine coming soon so definitely stay tuned for that!

If there was one message you could get out to the world what would it be?

When it comes to your craft and artistry, be who you are no matter what anyone says. There's no "right way" to do things, there's only your way.
