Little Roy Coffee Co: Bedstuy’s Newest Coffee Shop

Little Roy Coffee Co is one of Bed Stuy's newest coffee shops and a unique one at that! I felt it important to highlight this shop, in particular, because not only are they serving quality food and coffee but co-founders Moe Gabr and Rashida Bishop are keeping the local community at the forefront of their business. As we all know, gentrification in New York is no joke, so to have investors like Rashida who grew up in the neighborhood be a part of the business growth in the area is special.  After having launched in February 2017, Little Roy Coffee has partnered up with local roasters like Toby's Estate and Counter Culture to provide quality coffee all the while creating affordable luxury vibes for local residents.  Keep reading to get insight into the inspiration behind the shop straight from the powerhouses themselves! FYI, the cafe was named after Moe's dog. Cool, right?

What kind of vibe are you cultivating within your shop?

It's really about the community and the people who live in the area. We're striving to provide a luxury aesthetic, with affordable prices. Now it's not necessary for anyone to leave the neighborhood to find a good cup of coffee and have a quality experience.

The aesthetic in here is crisp and warm. I can only imagine what it's like during the winter! What was the inspiration behind it?

Through my other company Gabr Designs I've gained experience in hospitality design and have worked on restaurants and cafes before. For me, the reward is designing a space where people can just relax and enjoy it. Ultimately, we're passionate about coffee and having our guests feel comfortable at our place.

Do you only source organic and fair-trade ingredients?

Yes! We are conscious of the ingredients we choose and the impact it has on communities. Everything down to the granola is organic! We source about 80% of our products from local vendors and all food prep is done in house.

Would you be open to hosting events at the shop?

We would definitely entertain the idea. We haven't really taken any steps yet, but the spot would allow for it for some activities. In the future, we'd like to collaborate with some professional community events.

What are some goals you have for the shop 5 years down the line?

We just want to be one of the best coffee shops in Brooklyn. Hopefully, we'll be able to eventually expand into other areas but for now, we just want to provide the best quality coffee in the neighborhood.

Head over to Little Roy's Facebook page for details on their hours and any cool happenings!
