I was featured in a piece for Remezcla during this year's Afro-Latino Festival of New York to discuss the nuances of Afro-latinidad and what it means to me! This opportunity came at the perfect time because over the past few months I've been diving into the complexities of my identity and trying to make sense of how I view myself. This interview was transcribed from audio, so it won't capture the essence of how I feel about the importance of broadening the conversation to include black latinos, but let me make it clear-it's a very big deal to me.Little by little our generation is demanding that representation of Afro-latino be made prominent. We've been here all along but were never deemed important enough to be showcased, so we're taking matters into our own hands!
